Born July 19 ...... Now, much to my surprise I have grown up (well, become older anyway) and am currently dotty about my wife Miranda, two daughters (Martha and Amy) and cats Fluffy and Smoothy! (No I didn't choose the names!) I recently came out of the closet by admitting that I originally trained as a viola player and only gained an interest in the flute after leaving university. Between University and getting back into the music business I trained as a social worker (which helps a lot in the world of music) and played bass guitar in a heavy rock band (which doesn't help at all). I am now pleased to be a director of a company whose ethos has always been to support music at all levels. It has been fun working with Ruth over the last few years and I look forward to seeing the development of this exciting new venture.

Martin Wightman

(Keyboard accompanist) was born and educated in London. He trained at the Royal College of Music with organ virtuoso and composer the late Professor Dr. Harold Darke. Previous engagements have included “lay-clerk” at St Paul's Knightsbridge, assistant Organist at Southwark Cathedral, accompanist to the Exhultate Singers and a repetiteur to The London Opera Centre. He had been Musical Director for Sutton Schools Training Orchestra and Director of Music in a number of schools in London, Cornwall and Plymouth where he now lives. Martin has various musical interests including the Musical Theatre and Choral Conducting as well as private teaching. Currently a music examiner for OCR Martin is also organist and assistant Musical Director at Sherwell United Church, Plymouth.
Like most charities and voluntary organisations, 4Flutes relies on the support of enthusiasts and members of the public. Martin Wightman has been a member of the 4Flutes committee since it's formation in 2003. Since then Martin has been a valued member of the team and has made a great contribution to our work.

At the 2009 AGM Martin decided to step down from his committee role but hopes to maintain contact with the charity as a volunteer. We would like to thank Martin for all his help and he has been nominated by the committee as an Honorary Friend & Life Member of 4Flutes.
